Muritai Road: Concept B

Currently on the drawing board.

A desire to see the sea drove the clients to leave behind the old villa and revitalise this slice of Eastbourne paradise into a contemporary home full of modern comforts. Set one block back from the beach with a buffer of houses between, the need to build up was essential to creating vistas to the ocean.

A second approach to the Eastbourne seaview spot, a double verandah drives the rhythmic form of the facade.

The house utilises a central courtyard, wrapped by living space on three sides and opening up to the pool on the fourth: a ‘living-in-the-garden’ approach, with all spaces connecting to the sheltered garden.

The internal courtyard concaves the house away from its close by neighbours, while opening up sea views to the west and hill views to the east.

The second level creates a wind break to the courtyard below, while the sea-facing facade is protected by a wrap-around verandah.
