The mountain hut conjures feelings of remoteness, of refuge; in the midst of wild extremes yet safe, warm and protective. A stay in the mountain hut is not to escape the weather but rather to be surrounded by it on all sides. This is at once a focus for social interactions and for quiet, reflective isolation.
The verandah is an intermediate space between the wilderness and the indoors; a sheltered place to drop bags, de-boot, unwind. Here it provides a degree of separation between public and private parts of the house, connecting to the dormitory via an entry porch that contains laundry and bathing facilities and the all-important space for drying out wet gear!
Once clean and dry, move into the communal area to share food and stories around the crackling log fire, where the living room projects into the view.
